15 Feb 075: How to turn an idea into a successful business – with Martin Martinez
In this interview you’ll hear from Martin Martinez, CEO of The Boardroom who pulled no punches when it comes to sharing his truth and the his journey. Martin takes us behind the scenes into how he was able to turn an idea into a successful business.
Martin is a successful serial entrepreneur, business mentor, professional speaker and author who’s started, grown and sold several companies over the years.
It didn’t start out like that however. While pursuing a career in banking, Martin had to put his corporate dreams on hold to help salvage his family’s pastry business in Sydney. During this time, he realised he had a passion and skill for helping businesses succeed – and therein started his entrepreneurial itch.
Like any true entrepreneur, he was persistent, didn’t take ‘no’ for an answer easily – and looked outside the box. That formula helped him successfully launch the Australian Poker League in 2005 which he grew from a simple idea to the world’s largest poker franchise with over 120 territories in 2 countries all within 3 years and a combined turnover in excess of $50 million per year.
Martin is now the CEO of a group mentoring and advisory program called The Boardroom, which helps CEOs, business owners and senior executives make better strategic decisions about the companies they lead.
In this episode you’ll learn:
- How Martin turned around his parent’s company which kicked off his entrepreneurial spirit
- The strategy Martin used to launch The Australian Poker League – which turned over a revenue of $50 million after 3 years
- How Martin became the youngest ever chairman of The CEO Institute – and what he learned from the experience
- How Martin has developed a high performance culture at The Boardroom whereby the decisions are made by the mentors rather than by him
